Holding onto Hope JustRead Blog + Review Tour

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for Holding on to Hope by Janet W. Ferguson, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

When wedding planner Hope Rodriguez's friend needs her to plan a last-minute destination wedding in Wyoming, she is eager to jump on a plane and head west. Her own love life has been going nowhere for years, and she just found out the guy she's dating now doesn't believe in marriage. At least she can help Andrew and Caroline have the big day they deserve.

Facing an uncertain future after some things he didn't see coming, Caleb Donnelly joins Hope in order to help in any way he can. He might not know much about weddings, but he knows he's been in love with Hope since he was a teenager. She's never looked his way and he would never do anything to risk the friendship they share.

But as one thing after another goes wrong, Hope and Caleb find themselves spending more and more time together, supporting one another and trying to make this wedding happen according to the bride's wishes. As Hope begins to see Caleb in a new light, will he be brave enough to hold on to her?

I always love how Janet W. Ferguson portrays characters with real, everyday faith. Caleb's relationship with God centers him, and Hope sees the kind of faith she wants when she looks at Caleb. There's an emphasis on relationships and marriages that honor God and are faithful to Him and each other.

Although there are a number of funny moments as things keep going wrong, I found my suspension of disbelief was stretched a bit about the comedy of errors and a few other things as well. Still, if you're looking for a light read that highlights a beautiful part of the country and also packs a serious wallop in the faith department, this book is one for you.

I received my copy of the book from JustReads Publicity. All thoughts in this review are my own.

A fun road trip romance to the Grand Tetons!

Always the wedding planner, never the bride.

Hope Rodriguez loves planning weddings. There’s nothing more special than helping a bride become a princess for a day, but she’s not sure that’s her calling in life anymore. If only she had her own special someone. Her only current prospect leaves her with more questions than answers about where she falls in his list of priorities. Yet, when a lifelong friend asks her to plan a destination wedding across the country in only two weeks, she’ll have to figure out how to pull off the impossible…alone.

After being burned as a child and deserted by his family, Caleb Donnelly has an intimate relationship with pain. Despite all he’s endured, one ache refuses to leave him—the throbbing in his heart where Hope is concerned. So when Hope needs help with their friend’s wedding, he can’t stop himself from volunteering to travel two thousand miles to Jackson, Wyoming. As long as he keeps his feelings in check, he might not ruin their friendship. Because a beautiful woman like Hope could never love a scarred man like him.

When Hope and Caleb’s plans go up in flames, it’s their hearts that might never recover.

Healing Skye JustRead Blog + Review Tour

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for Healing Skye by Janet W. Ferguson, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

Healing Skye

Skye's temporary move to help Miss Lydia, the woman who is like a mother to her, takes a nosedive when circumstances leave Skye with nothing but her pets, the clothes on her back, and the furnished apartment she's rented. She's been in worse scrapes before, but how can she know who to trust while she puts her life back together? And when Miss Lydia's condition worsens, what will that mean for Skye's summer plans?

Pete Thompson isn't looking—in any sense of the word—for someone new. Still in love with his wife, who passed away six years earlier shortly after the birth of their only child, he has his hands full running his business and being a single parent. Not to mention being a spiritual leader to the small flock he preaches to on the beach each Sunday. But Skye clearly needs help, and the Holy Spirit keeps prompting him to open his heart to this wounded soul.

I really enjoy Janet W. Ferguson's stories. She does such a good job drawing characters you want to know more about, and there's always so much faith content. This novel touches on some very deep hurts, but it's done gently without naming the abuse or going into detail. You can infer plenty without having it spelled out. Skye's reactions because of her background are natural, and so is her gradual awakening to hope, faith, and love. I also appreciated Pete, who is certainly a man of faith but also has plenty of moments that prove he's human like the rest of us.

There's one side character that also stole my heart, and I'm happy to see she's to be the heroine of the next book in the series. I can't wait! I'll definitely want to see her story play out.

People can’t be trusted.

Animals always made more sense than humans did to marine biologist Skye Youngblood. After her mother’s suicide, she left Alabama and never looked back. These days, she pours her heart into protecting nature’s sea creatures. When she returns to Dauphin Island, Alabama, for a temporary manatee migration study, her dark past is much too close. She can’t let her guard down. But how can she keep her heart hidden when a kind man with a genuine smile makes her want a fresh start?

Charter fishing pays the bills for widower Pete Thompson and his little girl, but like his father, a pastor, Pete can’t help but fish for men. Only, after growing up under constant scrutiny as a preacher’s kid, Pete’s ways are a bit more unconventional. And the bulk of his life revolves around raising his precious daughter.

When he witnesses the car wreck of a new marine biologist on the island, it doesn’t take a genius to see that more than just her physical pain needs tending. Pete feels called to help Skye find true healing, but he’s navigating dangerous waters. And he’s not at all sure he’ll walk away unscathed.

For the Love of Joy

Davis Donnelly is a new creation. After turning his life over to Christ, he overcame an alcohol addiction and has been growing in his faith. With a desire to enter the ministry, Davis is seeking to wrap up all loose ends from his former life. There's just one left–his marriage. While he was in the military he'd received a Dear John letter along with divorce papers. He'd signed them, but he'd never gotten a copy of the finalized paperwork. After tracking down Joy's address, he arrives at her apartment just in time to witness Joy stepping in a hole and breaking her ankle. A trip to the ER gives them time to reconnect.

Joy can't believe that Davis has shown up now. Her life is barely holding together, what with her escape artist of a toddler complicating every aspect of her life. Working, going to school, and solo parenting don't leave her time for anything else. Including maintaining friendships.

When Davis realizes that Joy's broken ankle is going to sideline her for several weeks and she has no help for herself ofr young Hank, he impulsively declares he'll take care of them until she's back on her feet.

As Joy's recovery unfolds, she can't believe the Davis she sees in front of her. He's a completely different man. Kind, patient, and good with Hank. If he'd been like this when they first married, she never would have asked for a divorce. What has made the difference in this man? And what about his friends who keep showing up and helping beyond anything she could imagine? What is with these people?

I really loved this story. The string of crazy mishaps kept me laughing, the faith content was top notch, and the romance was sweet and proper. Everything about this book made me want to continue digging into Janet W. Ferguson's back list to catch up on what I've missed!
Star Rising

Star Youngblood just received her one year sober chip and is preparing to move out of Reclaimed, the Christian addiction ministry which helped turn her life around. Although she has a job helping elderly Mrs. Kelly, she's also looking for something more permanent, though her choices are limited as a high school drop-out with addiction in her past.

Paul Kelly has worked hard to become a private pilot for his European boss. He's saving for the day he can return to the States and help his mom in her retirement. When his mom suffers a health crisis and Paul receives an anxious and accusing phone call from her assistant, he can't wait to give the woman a piece of his mind.

Though Star and Paul don't like each other, their shared concern over Mrs. Kelly binds them together. He can't wait to find other arrangements for his mom's care, and he's tired of hearing Star's Bible talk. He had enough of that during his years as a missionary in Africa, and after the way his tenure on the field ended, he has no use for God or religion.

There were many things I enjoyed about this story. The characters feel real, they tackle deep issues, and there are laugh-out-loud moments. Janet W. Ferguson weaves an adventure that also has a strong faith focus. I appreciated how much Scripture was in this novel. Some readers might call it preachy, but I'm a Christian who does try to live her life by the guidance of the Bible, and I thought it was really great to see that here in this book.

This was my first time reading this author, but it won't be the last. I look forward to more of her works in the future!
