Remy Reed thrives in her quiet life on Islehaven, an island off the Maine coast. An introverted artist, Remy's days are filled with creative work and frozen meals. But everything changes the day she rescues a man from the ocean. A man with expensive clothes, an expensive watch, and an expensive haircut. But no memory.
Since she fished him out of the water, Remy calls the man Jonah. Helping him with his amnesia completely upends Remy's existence. Even when they discover his identity, the work of getting back his memories is slow. Yet as they grow closer, it's her memories that threaten to tear them apart.
I really enjoyed this new novel from Becky Wade. The characters are layered and complex, and getting to know them as the story unfolds is a true joy. Both come with complicated pasts, especially "Jonah" since we only uncover his past as he discovers it for himself. There's a slight thread of mystery that twists and turns until the exciting conclusion. Though the faith element takes longer to develop, I appreciated its strength and authenticity.
If you have sexual assault in your background, this might not be the book for you. I might also caution more conservative readers in general.
However, if you like deep contemporary stories that touch on the real messiness of life, I think you'll enjoy Memory Lane. I certainly did! I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received my copy of the book from the author. All thoughts in this review are my own.
