Ransom, Virginia, was not a planned stop on Alex Murdock's career path. More like a demotion, and he is not sure what this quiet town in the Blue Ridge Mountains could possibly have to offer him. Until he meets Rainey Mitchell, anyway.
Rainey's heart has been under wraps and on the mend since her ex-husband tried to destroy it before finally leaving her two years ago. Focused on her work and raising her five-year-old daughter, she has no time to notice the new flirt in town. Sure, Dr. Murdock is charming, but he seems like nothing but another handsome face who would consider himself before any other person.
The simple mountain life that Alex thought would bore him instead calls out for him to find a place to belong. Faith. Family. The stuff that is truly important in life. A beautiful but sarcastic coworker could definitely fit in the new direction he wants his life to turn... but only if she could learn to open her heart again.
I loved this story. Rainey and Alex are both complex, wounded characters. Alex's past holds some mystery—and some danger—which keeps you guessing how things will turn out. Rainey's past is less murky but just as painful. One thing I loved about this book was it showed the growth a new Christian experiences as he learns to walk with God. That was beautifully portrayed in this multi-layered novel.
I can hardly wait to see the further adventures of the Mitchell clan!
