I love smiling. I think most people do! It's always a good day when you pick up a book by an author who brings a little something extra in the amusement department. Here are some authors whose stories always put a smile on my face.

Becca Kinzer Becca Kinzer
Becca just recently received a contract for her first full-length novel, but she's got two romantic comedy novellas available for free if you join her newsletter. You should do it! Help a new author and give yourself some laughs.

Melissa Tagg Melissa Tagg
Melissa's stories have a wonderful quality to them. She makes me laugh, but she also writes characters who touch my heart. I recommend her Enchanted collection if you've never read her before. Plus, Christmas is coming!

Pepper Basham Pepper Basham
There are certain phrases that will send Pepper's readers into gales of laughter. Just try saying "stuck in the mud" or "light my fire" and see what happens. Better yet, check out A Twist of Faith and her other stories to see why they're laughing.

Regina Jennings Regina Jennings
If historical is more your style, Regina's books will certainly keep you in stitches. Her characters know how to get themselves into some real page-turning scrapes and side-splitting situations.

Becky Wade Becky Wade
I wouldn't say that Becky's books are primarily funny, but they contain top of the line character quirks and idiosyncrasies so that you can't help but giggle through the romance and mysteries.

Sarah Monzon Sarah Monzon
I cannot tell you how many times I've recommended Sarah's Sewing in SoCal series. The sewing circle ladies are all beautifully colorful and unique, and I love how Sarah draws them off the page.

Karen Witemeyer Karen Witemeyer
Karen's books are comfort reading for me. They always contain such great elements—humor, winning characters, social justice, faith—all while wrapped up with old fashioned Texas charm.

Tracy Joy Jones Tracy Joy Jones
I love the heart and the humor in Tracy's stories. Her Mayberry Family Novellas are full of fun, and she's another author with a free book that comes with signing up for her newsletter.

Angela Ruth Strong Angela Ruth Strong
Now, it's true—I've only read one Angela Ruth Strong book, and that was last week when I laughed (and cried) my way through Husband Auditions, but that one is funny enough on its own to make this list.

Ray Blackston Ray Blackston
I couldn't very well make a list like this without including Ray's books. If you're tired of hearing me yammer on about Flabbergasted and Jay Jarvis without knowing what I'm talking about, just click here and say yes to the adventure. And the smiles!

Beyond the Tides

Prince Edward Island. What woman who grew up reading Anne of Green Gables hasn't dreamed of visiting this small Canadian province? Although Liz Johnson has several books set on PEI, this was the first time I was able to read one of them.

This book centers around the lobster trade. Meg's father is ready to retire, especially with his wife's health failing. Though he has an agreement with Oliver Ross to purchase the business, Meg can't stand the thought of her family's legacy going into the hands of the nemesis from her teenage years.

Oliver can't believe that his dreams finally have the chance to come true. Life hasn't been kind and he hasn't always made the best choices, but at last he is on track to build the life he wants for himself. Only Meg Whitaker and her outrage stand in the way. Can he find a way to convince her he's not the same boy he was all those years ago?

I really wanted to like this book, but it just wasn't for me. Meg continually acted on impulse without any forethought, and she never won me over. The book also used some of my least favorite tropes. I believe many people would enjoy this story, but I kept being frustrated by the characters or plot twists. Please don't let my opinions stop you from reading this book if it sounds intriguing to you. Some of the things I disliked may be exactly what draws you in.

I received my copy of the book from the publisher. All thoughts in this review are my own.
