One thing I absolutely love is when an author crafts a secondary character that you kind of hate and then turns them into the protagonist in another book. In the first book you're kind of mad at them and thinking they're hopeless, but then in their own story you see them in a unique and beautiful way. Here are three who I thought were done especially well.
In On Distant Shores, Kay is hard and flirtatious, but when she gets her own story in In Perfect Time, we find out the poignant backstory which shaped her into who she is.
Phillip Camden in Roseanna M. White's Codebreakers series
Phillip Camden is only known as Black Hart, the disgraced pilot, in The Number of Love, but we find out his true nature in On Wings of Devotion.
Corbin Stewart in Becky Wade's Porter Family and Bradford Sisters series

He's the teammate who wants to steal the girl in Her One and Only, but there's really only one girl who's ever had his heart, as we learn in Falling For You.
