Five Reasons I Love Reading
Jul. 6th, 2021 09:00 am
It's no secret that I love reading. I'm sure I could come up with many more than five reasons, but these were the first ones that came to mind.
1. My grandmother always said, "If you can read, you can do anything."
Literacy is a big deal. My parents and my grandparents all encouraged me to read, and I can't imagine books *not* being a huge part of my life.

2. I love learning and always want to be growing in knowledge.
One reason that historical fiction is my favorite genre is because it is always teaching me things I didn't know, or bringing known facts to life in a different way. Even fiction can teach us so many things about the world around us.
3. Reading brings me joy and relaxation.
Stories are one of my favorite things. Not much is better than getting lost in a good book, leaving my personal stress behind and getting to know characters who may become dear friends.

4. Reading connects me with others.
Book lovers always enjoy talking about the stories they're reading. When I'm around fellow readers, we are never short on conversation! I have several friendships which were first built around the love of similar books.
5. Stories teach me about others and develop empathy.
When you put truth in the form of a story, it resonates in the human heart in a different way. Reading helps us understand the world and the ways people think and experience life. If we pay attention, it can make us better people who listen and love and shine Jesus' light in a more impactful way.
